Someone (ahem) left the gate chain off....

Notice how diligently Gwen is still guarding her charges.  This is how I was greeted on a very rainy Wednesday.  It seems that when I pulled Gwen into the hay shed to feed her I didn't check to be sure the chain on the back gate fell all the way into the little slot where it should catch.  The goats and sheep have plenty of shelter on a rainy day but the temptation of all-you-can-eat hay and a nice roof were just too much.  Someone pushed the gate open.  Since the hay in this shed is almost gone I did not bother trying to move everyone out.  I just took a few pictures, shook my head and went on with collecting eggs. A good laugh helps me maintain my sanity.

  1. LOL. At least everyone was well protected... along with being well fed. :-)

  3. Perhaps I should teach her to guard the hay rather than the livestock? She is a doll baby, though.

  4. There are times that I want a dog out in the barn but then I remember that they eat more than my whole herd ;-) Looks like you have a great farm hand there.

  5. We have 6 LGDs (livestock guardian dogs) but we also are in an area with coyote so they earn their keep. We produce free range eggs so the dogs get cull eggs scrambled & added to their dog food each day. They really are amazing creatures & always make me smile when I find them curled up among the lambs.

  6. I guess we should have invited them for coffee! :0) Must have been payback for leaving them!

  7. Oh, Angie, I am sure it is payback for something ;-) After all, you know how neglected they all are here! I'm sure they were steamed about missing coffee & a nice chat.
